Nothing can stop that now by halnarthax87 Nothing can stop that now by halnarthax87
I took me a while to appreciate one of the best aspects of Revenge of the Sith. At first I didn't like Anakin's motivation for turning to the dark side, the desire to cheat death, which started with the death of his mother. And then... I watched Return of the Jedi again and heard those lines, "Help me take this mask off." "But you'll die..." "Nothing can stop that now." And it blew my mind, a final rejection of Palpatine's lies and connected with the prequels in a very subtle but brilliant way.

That being said, I'd like to use this as an opportunity to defend (rant about) my favorite Star Wars film. Return of the Jedi was above and beyond great in my eyes, and yes better than Empire... in my eyes. I hope I can convince others. Here's a little perspective...
1. Empire is said to be the "dark" one. While the mood was darker... all the really bad shit goes down in Jedi. Jabba's palace had me cringing and clinging to my mom's sleeve as a kid in the theater, I even closed my eyes when the rancor appeared. And not to mention... PALPATINE. Everything about that character trumped Empire's darkness.
2. No hero deaths. Yeah, that's always a way to up the anti. But let's think about this... while none of the three main heroes die, Yoda dies, and the redeemed Darth Vader who is now essentially the main character of the whole saga died. And of course a lot of lovable villains die too, the emperor, Boba Fett (sort of... as far as we were concerned he was dead at that point). And I really thought Lando was going to die, thus taking the Falcon with him.
3. Ewoks. Yeah everyone loves to bitch about them. Well Benjamin Franklin once said anyone can criticize and complain, and fools usually do. That's all I have to say. I love those stupid fucking little bears. They had a kid appeal for me as a youngin, but they came to represent more to me, as the little people, the primitive people whose resolve and belief in good overcame the Empire. And they embody the spirit of Star Wars which stresses faith in nature over technology.
4. The finale. The ending of Jedi rouses me even to this day, nothing gets my blood pumping like the Millennium shooting out of the exploding Death Star and Lando's "Yeeha!!" And then the emotional ending is very satisfying. Anakin Skywalker's dying words, Luke staring into the funeral pyre, people across the galaxy celebrating the fall of the Empire, and all the characters happily hugging and looking ahead to the bright future.
What's not to like? I can't think of a more satisfying ending to a saga.

This scene makes me cry. Anakn is redeemed, and father and son are reunited....but only for a moment. But my favorite part is the Spirits. Remastered edition.

Awesome scene!!! :faint:
Great interpretation of those words
Usually we have arguments about whether Anakin fulfilled the prophecy of restoring balance to the force. I said yes, because he was the one who defeated Palpatine. Of course, with a little motivation from his son ;)
Great shot!

Yeah, it's kind of a vague prophecy really, I mean what does bring balance to the force really mean? In the end it meant him and one Jedi, and that was balance I suppose. I think Luke was sort of indirectly serving as the chosen one himself.
And then of course we get a slew of new sith in the expanded universe making it kind of a dumb prophecy. :P
